First Look vs. Reality
This van arrived at the shop looking like a complete build but it was actually a collection of shortcuts. Materials that didn’t belong. Systems that weren’t thought through. Decisions made for the sake of getting it done, not getting it right. And in a van, that stuff catches up fast.
Where It Fell Short

Power System
Undersized and under built. It couldn’t even reliably run the AC unit. That’s not a small miss, that’s the foundation.

Structure
Framing made from pallet wood. Inconsistent, rough, and not meant for a vehicle that flexes and moves every time it hits the road.

Insulation
A mix of spray foam, rigid polystyrene boards, and gaps. No continuity, no real thermal control. Just pieces filling space. -
Electrical
Exposed wiring. Wire nuts throughout. Components buried and hard to access. Fine in a house, not in something that vibrates down the highway.

Cabinetry
Residential kitchen cabinets. Heavy, bulky, and not built for movement. Looked decent, but added weight and risk.

Functionality
A nice-looking sink that didn’t actually work well in real use. Style over practicality. -
Noise
No real sound deadening. Driving it felt like sitting inside a hollow shell.
Back to Barebones
Everything had to come out so that we could rebuild this van the right way.
The Rebuild
From there, every system was rethought and rebuilt with intention:

Lightweight, purpose-built cabinetry: Van Wife Components aluminum cabinetry.

Components chosen for real-world use, not just looks: Removable platform bed frame, Roam Rest mattress, TEC Vanlife Hidden Sink, Tetravan rear shower sprayer, Nova Kool fridge and Bamboo countertops with soft close drawers.
